My love hate relationship with Bangkok's ubiquitous "lookchin" (meatballs) have spanned over 20 years. From arriving in Thailand my youth it was a new-found discovery, the perfect afternoon snack after a restless day of exploring markets and malls.
On the dusty streets of our hometown, the strange meaty aromas would emanate from the ambers of coal and other debris found around the urban swamps, however, as time passed, the world changed, the more conscious I became of health and questioned the mystery meats which came frozen in thick plastic packets.
Homemade and made by locals felt more a thing of the past, until discovering that a few of Bangkok's Thai food institutions were keeping the tradition alive. Here, fishballs and meatballs were again being made from 100% meat and not fillers and faux proteins.
That's when I fell back in love, and thankfully, although restaurants are currently pausing on their dine-in activities, we've discovered that Winai Cuisine are offering delicious homemade lookchin by delivery. Check them out here!
